Gangster Coconut®
Down To Earth, Made In Eswatini
Bumble bag® is a project by Paper Tech Eswatini to save the environment by creating an alternative to replace the current plastic bag usage in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Bumble bag is invented, designed and produced in the Kingdom of Eswatini, patented under the trade mark of GCCN® or Gangster Coconut®.
Bumble bag is designed to be eco friendly, as corrugated paper, sisal handle and seams are all 100% decomposable material.
It is made of corrugated paper offcuts, so nothing goes to waste, this is because in an environment where recycling capabilities are limited, to reuse instead of to recycle is the best way to go about saving the environment and to reduce plastic waste.
The handles of the bag is made of sisal plant fibre, grown in the wild, harvest and processed by local villagers. It is a rural community empowerment outreach program, by creating job opportunities in areas where sisal plants grow, and sisal is usually found in harsh conditions were soil are poor, therefore by sourcing sisal fibre in the making of Bumble bag, it directly create job opportunities for villagers in the area.
Trademark GCCN® or Gangster Coconut®
Gangster Coconut is not really a gangster per say, but he is pretty gangster towards unsustainable packaging like plastic bags that is not only choking up the world, but this whole beef with plastic bag is also kinda personal.
Long story short but not too short: One day Gangster Coconut rolled around the beach and decided what the heck, let me roam up to the mountains and guess what? Voila~ he bumped into a tree. Boom and zoom zoom zoom~ flies out a bumble bee. They greeted each other to say whats up and Bumble Bee, being polite and kinda showoff, decided to show him around his place.
It clearly worked because Gangster Coconut got super psyched to see Bumble Bee’s hexagon hives, that is
kinda compact yet strong AF like nobody’s business. Kinda dizzy from just bumped into a tree Gangster Coconut came up with a design that he thinks might be useful one day.
And as he kept on rolling around the hills, he found a sisal plant hanging about. He asked Sisal how’s things and what is he up to, and Sisal says yah I got this bunch of fibers hanging about, especially after the dry season and its kinda annoying. Gangster coconut thought to himself, hmmmm... this Sisal fiber is crazy strong and can be easily woven, and once its woven it is like OP level strong.
Since Gangster Coconut is really not good at home economics, he found some villagers around the hill and ask them if they can collect Sisal fiber and wove them into strings and braid them like a true Rasta. Since all villagers are a true fan of Bob, they happily obliged and Gangster Coconut, a true aficionado for reggae, one love and all the tender care for the world, and with all the love from the villagers, Bumble bag® was born.
